The university “pisser” meme has arrived at Brock University.
Over the past few weeks, a collection of social media accounts have popularized a meme that involves a person seemingly urinating out in the open on university campuses across Southern Ontario.
The university pisser meme can be seen on Instagram and TikTok, where a guy appears to be urinating openly on campus, usually in the dead of night and vowing to do so again as stated through the audio, “tonight’s the night” — a reference to the show Dexter.
When the meme originated is difficult to identify. It has been circulating since early September across Canada and the United States.
Early coverage of the trend was reported on Sept. 10 by The Rocky Mountain Collegian, a university publication that covers news at Colorado State University.
The Brock Pisser account, now renamed to the Brock Cookie Monster, has been actively “urinating” on campus since around Sept. 12, per their first uploaded video.
The account — before being rebranded as the Brock Cookie Monster account — shared similarities with other “pisser” accounts across Ontario’s universities.
The accounts share the same A.I. generated profile picture of a Dexter Morgan-type character wearing a t-shirt with the name of their respective university printed on the front.
As of writing on Sept. 19, other university “pisser” accounts in Ontario include the waterloopisser, theubcpisser, laurieru_pisser and theuottawapisser.
As for the legality of the meme, it is not a criminal offense to engage in public urination in Ontario, unless it can be deemed indecent exposure such as when in the close vicinity of other people.
The most popular Instagram reel from the Brock Pisser, posted on Sept. 13, has garnered 1,922 likes and 3,893 shares as of writing. It shows the Pisser supposedly urinating on the walkway between Mackenzie Chown and the Plaza building.
The pisser meme itself has spun off a sub-genre meme: the university investigator. The university investigator meme attempts to “track” the Pisser from the so-called “crime scene” in an attempt to uncover their identity.
Examples of this would be ucalgaryinvestigators, uw_pisser_investigation and brocku.doakes, Brock University’s own Pisser investigator.
In these two memes, the show Dexter is foundational, with the Pisser representing Dexter Morgan and the Pisser Investigator representing James Doakes.
It isn’t just the pisser investigators adding onto the meme. In a trend unique to Brock, schmontower — an Instagram account dedicated to the Schmon Tower — declared war on the Brock Pisser in their comments after the Pisser took to the roof of Schmon Tower on Sept. 13.
In their last related reel posted on Sept. 16, the Brock Pisser declared “this will never end…” while urinating on Alumni Field. Around two days later, the Brock Pisser account was rebranded into the Brock Cookie Monster.
The perpetrator’s most recent reel shows them placing cookies on the Earp residence building sign.
The Brock Pisser is but a cornerstone in the mosaic of a global meme and Brock’s contribution to broader society, even if it ends up being short lived.
