Blossom Bakery’s downtown Thorold location reopened its storefront on Sept. 3 after a hit-and-run car accident caused a temporary closure.
The bakery, located inside Thorold’s historic Old Fire Hall on Albert Street West, was affected by an accident on Aug. 16 when a vehicle crashed into the front of the building, closing the business and damaging the historic location.
The bakery’s location inside the Old Fire Hall has made it a recognizable part of downtown Thorold. The historic building, combined with the bakery’s storefront, has made it a destination for residents and visitors exploring the downtown area.
According to Niagara Regional Police, officers were called to the scene at approximately 1:35 a.m. after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck the former fire hall. Police described the vehicle as a black Dodge Ram pickup truck with extensive front-end damage. There was no one inside the building at the time of the accident.
The accident left the bakery facing an unexpected closure during the summer, interrupting regular operations and preventing customers from visiting the downtown location. While construction on the building was underway, Blossom Bakery continued to operate from their Jordan location.
Following the collision, Blossom Bakery addressed the closure on social media, thanking customers for their support and sharing their plans to return to Thorold.
“We’ll be working hard to reopen our doors and return to the community,” the bakery said in a Facebook post following the accident.
The reopening comes just weeks after the bakery was unexpectedly forced to close following the collision.
There has been temporary changes to the storefront following the incident, as the damage caused the bakery’s main entrance to be shut down, leaving only a single-door entrance.
Additionally, the business has had to shift its gallery display, which is now presented on the temporary support wall put in after the collision.
Stopping in their store this week, you can see the community is rallying around the business. From pies to drinks, people are coming by to show their support and try their menu.
The bakery hosted a grand reopening party on Sept. 26 to give thanks for the community’s support, featuring live painting, a vintage sale and raffle prizes. This also served as an early celebration for the Albert Street location’s first anniversary.
“We are so happy to be back open,” the business shared in an Instagram post.
For Blossom Bakery, the return to Albert Street marks a return to regular operations and to the downtown Thorold community.
As customers continue to stop by for baked goods, the bakery is once again open to host community gatherings.
