Exam Resources at Brock

The end of the semester is near, and with it comes the completion of final projects, group presentations and back-to-back exams.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to cram, someone to talk to or a ride home after a late-night study session, Brock offers various supports that you may not be aware of. Here are five resources to support the transition into busier schedules this exam season.

Study support

If you’re tired of rereading notes and hoping something sticks, Learning Services’ tutoring options are a first stop.

You can book one-on-one tutoring sessions with upper-year students who have already taken your course, and can walk you through tricky concepts, practice questions and study strategies. These sessions are booked online through the Learning Services tutoring portal using your Brock login. You can then pick the course, format (in-person or online) and a time that fits your schedule.

If you have a few quick questions or want to check your understanding before an exam, you can also try drop-in tutoring. There are weekly drop-in times scheduled throughout the year for you to choose from, spanning disciplines such as math, physics, biology, chemistry or general academic support.

For bigger-picture support, Learning Services runs academic skills workshops on topics like time management, exam prep and study strategies. These are free, one-hour sessions listed on ExperienceBU. You can pick a workshop and register with your Brock email to reserve a spot, whether you prefer to attend in person or online.

Late night study

During exam season, Brock University Library becomes a second home for many students. Schmon Tower offers a mix of silent floors, quiet corners and group study spaces, giving you options whether you’re studying alone or working through practice problems with friends.

In some terms, the library extends its hours through a late-night study period, keeping spaces open later so students can stay on campus to work. You can find updated hours and options for getting home safely, including shuttle or ride programs supported by student services on the Brock University Library website.

Getting home safely

During the Library’s Late Night Study period, the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) offers a free Drive Home program in partnership with the Zoom Zoom

Students can book a ride from campus to their home address within the Niagara region by downloading the app and entering the Brock-specific code “BADGERS” at checkout. Pick-up takes place outside the Rankin Family Pavilion, aligning with the library’s extended hours so that students aren’t left waiting in the dark.

For those who live nearby, Campus Safety Services offer 24/7 escorts to walk you to your parked vehicle or residence. You can pre-schedule an appointment or book on spot through the Brock Safety app. Requests can also be made by calling Campus Safety Services at (905) 688-5550 x3200.

Mental health support

Exams can test your mental health just as much as it tests what you know. Brock’s Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC) brings together personal counselling, health services and accessibility support under one umbrella.

Students can access free Personal Counselling Services for concerns like anxiety, burnout or exam stress. Appointments are available during the weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and evening appointments can be booked on their website.

There is also 24/7 urgent counselling by phone at 1-833-276-2533 (1-833-BROCK33) for students who need support outside regular hours.

SWAC and campus partners may also host wellness events during busier times of the year, giving students a chance to step away from their notes and reset for a while.

Exam accommodations

For some students, succeeding on exams means changing the way they’re written, not lowering expectations. Student Accessibility Services (SAS) coordinates academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities or health conditions, including mental health conditions.

Through the SAS Exam Centre, students may receive adjustments such as extra time, a quiet writing space or access to assistive technology, depending on their individual needs. The Exam Centre is located on the fourth floor of Schmon Tower (ST 411), with staff available to answer questions about booking and deadlines. Registration and exam requests are time-sensitive, so students are encouraged to connect with SAS as early as possible.
