Kick off the semester with Frost Week and more

|

Before the winter term kicks into high gear, BUSU aims to make sure that you still get your fill of Brock fun — meeting new people, reconnecting with friends and getting some much-needed social time through Frost Week.

The winter term is the term of renewal. With the equinox in the rearview, the days slowly stretch longer. You’re primed with the lessons learned from round one and ready to commit to new study goals and strategies — but the 2026 term comes fast. Five days into the new year and you’re already back in your dorm, back in lecture halls and back to the study spots where you spent way too much time in December.

So, before the work piles up, take advantage of your open schedule with Frost week and Brock’s January programming.

Free food with Food First

The most important meal of the day should never be forgotten. BUSU is providing free grab and go breakfast on Jan. 6, 7, 8, 14 and 15 starting at 8:45 a.m. While supplies last, students can grab granola bars, snacks and fruit.

On Jan. 13, BUSU is offering a free hot breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. with pancakes, breakfast sausage, eggs, home fries, juice, coffee and fresh fruit — free for all students with a student card while supplies last.

Downtown, students can drop by Marilyn I. Walker campus on Jan. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. for free chicken or vegetable soup, dine-in or take-out. Student cards are not required.

Tuesday trivia

Tuesday trivia is coming back to Brock every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., starting on Jan. 6. Teams of up to four people can compete for a chance to win weekly prizes. Winnings include a $75 Walmart gift card for first place, $50 Uber Eats gift card for second place and a $30 McDonald’s gift card for third place. Plus, at the end of the semester, the team with the most points will receive $300 in Amazon gift cards.

Drop-in ice skating

Lace up your skates on Jan. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ice skating at the Canada Games Park. The first 150 students will receive a free pair of BUSU mittens. Skate rentals are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Sexy bingo

Sexy Bingo hits Gym 2 on Jan. 7, opening at 8 p.m. and running from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Hosted by esteemed local drag queen Vanity À La Mode, the night includes major prizes — $200 gift cards to Landmark Cinemas, Sports Chek, Amazon, Walmart and local restaurants — plus a performance students won’t want to miss. No registration is needed, but there are limited spots available..

Clubs fair

For those who missed the fall fair, Residence 8 will be hosting an indoor Clubs Fair on Jan. 8 from noon to 4 p.m., with free cotton candy while supplies last — an opportunity to explore new interests and find a new niche.

Get crafty

On Jan. 14 from noon to 4 p.m., BUSU will be teaming up with Paper Bananas for Vision Board Making. A relaxed, creative afternoon focused on manifestation and personal reset. Supplies are limited, so come early if interested.

Pizza with Politicians

Finally, on Jan. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m., BUSU will be hosting Pizza with Politicians in Residence 8. This event is a chance for students to network with influential politicians and secure some free pizza. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP to secure their spot on ExperienceBU. The first 50 students to arrive will receive a free BUSU bucket hat.

Intramurals

While the zone gets filled with new year’s resolution energy, intramurals offer a less crowded experience to get active. Winter registration includes the return of first term leagues like co-ed volleyball, dodgeball, ball hockey, table tennis, indoor soccer and more, with new winter tournaments for indoor pickleball, snow flag football and 3-on-3 March madness.

Pop-up market

Throughout the semester, the Rankin pavilion will be hosting a pop-up market featuring Campus DiscsBeautyCat Co and Creditshop — selling vintage clothing, vinyl and more. The first market will take place on Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the next one to follow on Feb. 25.

Paint the Meridian Red

While not technically Frost Week, Jan. 31 ends the start of the winter term with the basketball showcase Paint the Meridian Red: a chance to see the Brock Badgers face the McMaster Marauders. Women play at 6 p.m. and men at 8 p.m. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster and sell out fast — it’s an event you will not want to miss.

—

January is stacked not just with frost week events but with chances to meet people, shake off the snow and settle into the semester feeling connected and renewed.
