On the evening of Nov. 5, Dr. Loubani will visit St. Catharines’ First Ontario Performing Arts Centre to discuss his experience working as a healthcare professional in Gaza and the impact of global support on Palestinian sovereignty.

Palestinian-Canadian physician Dr. Tarek Loubani has been training medical staff in Gaza for 15 years. This summer, he worked at the Nasser Hospital, one of the Gaza Strip’s largest hospitals, and one that has seen several attacks in recent years.

On Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., Dr. Loubani will discuss the “systemic destruction” of healthcare infrastructure and resources in Palestine within the context of the ongoing genocide at the event “Medicine on the Frontlines: Healthcare and Palestinian Statehood.” He will also discuss the importance of state alliances on local and global levels and how they impact Palestinian statehood and sovereignty.

The event is being held in the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre’s Recital Hall. The event is free to attend, but students are asked to register in advance. Students can register through ExperienceBU or Eventbrite and they should arrive at the event by 6:40 p.m.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Loubani is an associate professor at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine and is a co-founder of Glia, an organization that aims to make healthcare more accessible for everyone by attending to communities to provide crisis healthcare support.

More information about the “Medicine on the Frontlines” event can be found on Brock’s website.
